Recommended travel plans
Mpekweni Beach Resort is situated on the sunshine coast between East London and Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth). Each major centre has an easily accessible airport with regular connecting flights to Cape Town and Johannesburg.
We recommend that you rent a car and enjoy the scenic drive to the conference venue. Alternatively, there are shuttle and transport service providers available from either airport in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) or East London.
We recommend staying at the conference venue. Mpekweni Beach Resort is well equipped to accomodate delegates, but you might also consider other accommodation options in the nearby coastal towns of Port Alfred and Kleinemonde.
Nearby Airports
We recommend booking a flight itinerary through to either East London (King Phalo International Airport), which is a 90km (1hr 20 min) drive from the conference venue. Gqeberha / Port Elizabeth (Chief Dawid Stuurman Airport) is 195km (2hr 15min) from the venue. East London Airport is our recommendation, but you might prefer Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) if you plan to visit the Addo Elephant National Park.
Car rental
There are a variety of car rental agencies available at East London and Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) Airport. E-hailing services like UBER and Bolt are available in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) and East London for getting around the city, but there is no public transport in the region around the venue.
Shuttle services
While we recommend renting a car for maximum flexibility, there are several reputable shuttle service providers for transfers between either of the nearby airports and the venue. Our preferred supplier is Blunden, but there are other reputable suppliers too, including EZ Shuttle and CJ's Shuttle services.
Accommodation
We recommend staying at the venue, but there are a variety of nearby accommodation options between Port Alfred and Mpekweni Beach Resort, including the seaside villages of Kleinemonde, Mtati, Mgwalana and Birha. Accommodation options range from luxury private game reserves, hotels, guest houses, bed-and-breakfasts, airbnbs and private rentals.
